Sven-David Sandström

Sven-David Sandström

Professor in composition at the Indiana University in Bloomington, USA. He is Senior Lecturer in composition and also works as counsellor. Born in Motala (1942), professor Sandström studied music research and the history of art at Stockholm University. He went on to study composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm under the tution of Ingvar Lidholm. Other notable lecturers include György Ligeti and Per Norgård. His international breaktrough came in 1974 at the ISCM in Amsterdam, with his orchestral work, Through and through. Sven-David Sandström has since strengthened his reputation as one of the most important composers of our time.

Professor Sandström considers his Requiem "De ur alla minnen fallna" (1982), and "High Mass" (1994) to be his breakthroughs in Sweden. Both pieces are milestones in the history of Swedish music.
